Daniel Valenzuela, former Phoenix City Council member and candidate for Mayor, issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Phoenix City Council to approve the renovations to Talking Stick Arena:
“I applaud the Phoenix City Council for passing the deal to renovate the Talking Stick Resort Arena and for voting to direct additional investments in education and public safety from future arena revenue. In this case, the decision to approve the arena renovations shows that the Council is serious about supporting a thriving downtown, and cares about the economic impact, number of jobs and businesses tied to the arena, and creating a sense of place in our community.
“The money for renovating the arena comes from a dedicated source, without sacrificing critical funds for infrastructure and public safety. Now, the City and our partners have a clear path forward and Phoenix families have certainty that our downtown will continue to thrive.”
